NEW WINE STORE SIMPLIFIES WINE BUYING FOR THE NOVICE
Blue Heron Fine Wine & Spirits Offers
Wine By Taste and a New Easy To Use Wine Guide

www.blueheronfinewine.com

Glastonbury, Conn./December 5, 2006 – Now local wine novices can identify great wines just like their wine connoisseur counterparts thanks to a new wine store that has simplified the world of wine buying. Blue Heron Fine Wine & Spirits, which will officially opens its door on December 16, will debut an array of high quality artisanal wines from all over the globe organized by taste. In addition, an easy to use guide will help wine buyers identify good table wines, extraordinary wines worth the investment, and even "green" wines – whether your preference is organics or additive free.
"I’ve traveled all over the world tasting exquisite wines," said Joseph Schling, owner of Blue Heron Fine Wine & Spirits. "I wanted to bring the best offerings to Blue Heron and create an authentic wine experience that could enjoyed by the wine novice, as well as the connoisseur. A liet motiv of our shop might be stated as vin sans peur, or wine without fear," added Schling.
With wine drinking quickly becoming a part of American culture it becomes even more important to make wine buying accessible and enjoyable for the less knowledgeable drinker. According to a Gallop Poll, in 2005, wine passed beer as the alcoholic beverage adult consume most often. In addition, that same year wine consumption rose in the U.S. for the eighth year in a row. Who’s drinking wine? A study conducted on behalf of Wine Market Council found that "Millennial" generation, consumers 21 – 30 years, are taking a strong liking to wine and that women are accounting for 70 percent of wine purchases.

Blue Heron's unique presentation system displays wines by flavor and taste and helps consumers to understand the relationship between wine and foods. Categories range from refreshing light bodied white wine to supple medium bodied whites, to lavish full bodied whites and then to light bodied red wine, silky medium bodied red wines and then on to full bodied red wines, sweet dessert wine and a plethora of sparkling wines. Each category also offers food recommendations. Blue Heron’s guide to wine buying mirrors the Michelin Guide for judging the quality of a restaurant. Wines which have not been awarded a star have still been judged to be table wines of great value. One star recognizes a very good wine, worthy of giving as a gift or to be served with a fine meal, two stars refers to an excellent wine fit for very special occasions. Three stars are held for an exceptional wines worthy of the investment and wines with green stars recognizes wines that are organic, utilize sustainable agriculture or have no additional additives.
As part of its new approach to wine buying, Blue Heron features a seating area for customers to read and leisurely sample new wines. In addition, the store will offer frequent wine tastings in a special equipped wine tasting room, as well as special events including educational seminars and networking events.
Blue Heron will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, December 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. The grand opening event will feature a special appearance by television and radio food show personality Prudence Sloane will conduct a food and wine pairing seminar at 2:00 p.m. Wine tastings will be conducted by wine experts throughout the day.

Blue Heron Fine Wine & Spirits is a unique value added and innovative purveyor of quality wines and spirits. Blue Heron is located at For more information about Blue Heron Fine Wine & Spirits please call 860-659-1300 or visit www.blueheronfinewine.com.

Have you ever found yourself staring at the offerings in a wine store trying to make a decision as to which wine to bring to a dinner party, or which wine to serve at your own dinner party? Do you question if the wine will pair well with what's being served? And has it happened to you that the wine you're serving at your dinner party tastes awful with the food? Is it possible to tweak the food to make the wine work? And if you are at a restaurant and its up to you to choose the wine for everyone at the table, which one do you choose? It can be a daunting decision.

Join Connecticut's Mr. & Mrs. Food and Wine for fun and informative interactive exploration of the finer points, and the not so fine points, of pairing food and wine. From this enlightening tasting demonstration you'll walk away with the tools and knowledge to be able to make an informed food and wine pairing decision for any occasion.

Prudence Sloane is a radio food show host, culinary educator and food journalist as well as the founder of Prudence Sloane's Cooking School in Hampton, Connecticut.
